helpful lou reed

Sometimes when I’m in a difficult mental state, hearing some Lou Reed is helpful, especially this song that is shown in the screenshot.

biff burger greensboro has closed after 60 years

My favorite sandwich at Beef Burger (Biff Burger) was the Super Cheese dipped.

It was a really good sandwich, but they fucked it up so many times that I switched to just getting the little cheeseburgers which were called “Biffs with cheese.” They were simple and good and came dipped automatically.

Another thing I liked was that vinegar was always out on the condiment bar for the french fries.

Famous sign in the front window, “if you are drunk, eat somewhere else.”

a friend in ben

Any time I’m in a foul mood and want to lash out at things, I think I should just tell some stupid story about my life instead. Here’s one.

It was 1972, so I would have been 13, and I went to see the movie Ben at the Carolina, or maybe it was the Terrace.

When Michael Jackson started singing the title track to Ben, I started to embarrassingly weep right there in the movie theater.

Something snapped, apparently.

Ben, the two of us need look no more
We both found what we were looking for
With a friend to call my own
I’ll never be alone
And you my friend will see
You’ve got a friend in me

morgue (movie)

This just came out on Blu-ray disc.

Very good horror movie. I was pleased.

“Morgue is a Paraguayan thriller horror film directed and produced by Hugo Cardozo.”

In Spanish with English subtitles.

gso observation area

The strange forlorn observation area at GSO airport.

I’m not sure I even knew it had one.

love is blue

Love is blue · Paul Mauriat

This song came up on my stream tonight. Always a memory triggered.

1968, I was a child, and my mother and I arrived early to downtown Greensboro for shopping.

I think it was Meyer’s Department Store. We arrived a few minutes before opening, but they let us in anyway.

I didn’t know the name of the song playing in the store, but I knew I liked it and it was on the radio a lot. Love is blue · Paul Mauriat.

The music system was turned up loud, I guess to rev up the store and employees for the day. The store was lit up and glittering, the music was roaring. Beautiful. My mom and I both liked it a lot.

Nice for a song to bring her memory back to me. Today marks her birthday.

time for some soviets

Just arrived. My new old watch from the USSR. Brian finds these things on eBay.

suspicious packages

28 days ago my election influencer kit arrived from the Ukraine.

Today, this one arrives from Krasnodar, Russia. Good stamps!

I’m supposed to take it to the Tiger Mart on Battleground and leave it in the cooler on top of the Klondikes. I hope they don’t mind if a take a couple for my trouble.

It rattles like metal. Might be pipeline parts.
