mastodon, twitter, and instances

I am not on Mastodon because of Twitter. I’m there because I want to be and have liked it for a long time. I am not into the controversy of who is on or off Twitter or who is running it.

My “joined” date is recent because I’ve had to change instances many times mostly due to them just vanishing on short, or no, notice.

At least now I can have a certain (self-managed) instance for as long as I care to pay for it and the host exists.

Vivaldi Social also looks to be a good pick for longevity.

This is not to deny that there are many strong, reliable, well-managed instances out there. My trust is low because, in spite of being careful, I made one bad pick after another. One even took my donation and shut off the next day without notice. These are issues that I am trying to avoid.

firefox beta v96 arrived today – beautiful

Firefox Browser rolled out beta version 96 today (v96.0b2). The UI and tabs are especially beautiful. Love it! Get the betas for desktop and mobile. I’ve never had any trouble with them.

I am also very fond of the Vivaldi browser for desktop and mobile. I get the stable releases. The snapshot (beta) releases are more beta than Firefox’s and sometimes give trouble. If you’re into testing that, all is well, but I like to stay stable with Vivaldi.

Mobiles are in the Play Store for both on Android.

vivaldi and cnn

Totally a feature not a bug. Add MSNBC and we’re cooking with gas.

net software faves

Various things we like for desktop computer for our everyday net business of high importance. We are very important 💡

Mobile list is similar with some variations.

Some we have used for a very long time. The web browsers handle so many things these days.

vivaldi pgp e-mail

Vivaldi (the browser people) gives free e-mail with a generous 5 gigs and PGP encryption. I didn’t know about the encryption. Nice to have something that’s not Protonmail.

Free e-mail isn’t a high need for most people, but this is ad free, no snoop, and geeked out with PGP crypto.
