i guess we need more corporate tax-free zones

Just got the bill.

How ’bout that. 100% increase in my property taxes over just a few years ago. The gov. will say, “we didn’t increase taxes.”

No increase in the rate, maybe, but instead value my house up into the ozone.

Let’s see if we can slather on some bond issues every election to add to the fun.

Then, there are the ones that parade themselves for the TV cameras saying, “I’d gladly pay a little more in taxes if…”

That sounds fine as long as it’s just gladly YOUR taxes specifically.

necco candy wafers

People often cringe when seeing these, but they are a favorite candy for me. I try to choose a roll with the fewest licorice, but three will usually be the minimum. One can never get none.

I thought Necco had gone out of business, but these were at the Food Lion today.

beer!

Beer at Vito’s. 🍺🍺

omg get to it

Years ago when I was trying to put an end to my endless pursuit of college, I used to DJ at a couple of campus stations to take my mind off other things.

I learned early on that every time you turn on the microphone, be ready to talk, sound at least a little interested, get to the point, and don’t drag on with slow “ummm, soooo, ohhhkaayy.”

Some of the other DJ’s would just kill me.

I just watched part of a YouTube that was worse than usual in this way.

appliance fetish

My refrigerator and electric range (AKA the cooker) are very old. If either one fails, I might replace with a Chinese brand just for TF of it. 😈 Haier, for example, is quite good now.

I notice large appliances. When in Cuba, most people had refrigerators that were either a Russian make or were a GE from Mexico (GESAMEX).

God, can I just sit out front and meditate? ❤️

I always imagine that the thing on the top is a handle that a giant could use to take the dome off.

little me and a ford galaxie

This is a cool favorite pic.

This is me walking behind a car that I was almost born in because my father drove my mother to the hospital in it when she started to give birth to me.

Years later, I would learn to drive in that car. Smooth automatic.

It’s a 1959 Ford, and I see Fairlane on it, but I swear I remember my father calling it a Galaxie 500. Maybe there is more badging on the car that I cannot see. It had a HUGE steering wheel that I remember my mother’s wedding ring clanking against it as she made turns.

I was also in this car with mother driving when we heard about JFK being shot on the radio. I was really little, but I remember people freaking TF out. People were making u-turns on High Point Road and going home. My mom did this, too.

the summer of jell-o desserts

When I was a young’un, my parents started riding my ass to play sports, and I was sure they meant severe ones like football.

Coming back from a beach trip, I was told, “you need to pick a sport, or we’re going to pick one for you.” Upon hearing that, I looked at the car-door handle and wondered how much it would hurt to fling myself out onto the highway.

I started to think of “sports” that I might could handle: croquet, slingshot (lol), bowling.

I decided to ignore it, and it went away. I was able to finish out the summer attempting Jell-O desserts from magazine recipes. “If the temperatures are right, maybe I can get this layer of fruit to float in between these layers of Jell-O, then I can put on the whipped cream!”

pineapple

Pineapples $2.99 at Harris Teeter. Same ones $4.99 at Fresh Market. I feel used that I bought two of them at FM before seeing these. 🍍

However, FM has some damn good pies and deli items.

jj in the car coming home

Sweet JJ got an ear infection. Fortunately we saw symptoms early, so we hope treatment will be easy.
Here he is ready to come home from the vet.
