favorite quotations from movies

One of my all-time favorites is Bette Davis playing Baby Jane Hudson while speaking to Joan Crawford playing Blanche Hudson from the 1962 film: What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?

Blanche (while in a wheelchair): You wouldn't be able to do these awful things to me if I weren't still in this chair.

Jane: But you *AHHH*, Blanche! You *AHHH* in that chair!

Chillingly sick! 😀

What are some more good ones?

  1. I didn't get the dialogue. AHH=are?

  2. AHH=are?

Excellent Kyren! That's it precisely in Bette Davis style.

  3. Probably the most iconic movie dialogue of all times:"May the force be with you."And while we are still with Star Wars "Red 5, I am going in" And then there was "Imm going to make him an offer he cant refuse" from The Godfather. Totally useless fact: Sherlock Holmes never actually says "Elementary, dear Watson" in the *entire* book series. It was made popular by the movie adaptation, "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes".

  4. Red 5, I am going in

I saw that as your status message one day. 😎

  5. "Asta la vista Baby " from the Terminator movies and from The Lord Of The Rings "One ring to rule them all, one ring to find them. One ring to bring them all and it the darkness bind them."

  6. I knew I'd love these quotes. Thanks selurus and Shaunak.

  7. Another of my favorite Star Wars moments:“I suggest a new strategy, R2. Let the wookiee win.”Another totally useless fact: C-3PO has the last line in the New trilogy and the last in the Old."I feel so helpless." -Return of the Sith"Did you hear that? They shut down the main reactor" -A New Hope

  8. You're a major Star Wars fan, aren't you Shaunak?Another one from one of my favourite movies The Matrix – "Free your Mind"

  9. "Aye, fight and you may die. Run and you'll live — at least a while. And dying in your beds many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that for one chance, just one chance to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take our freedom"

  10. FYI, Shaunak, whatever this image is you put in your comments, it doesn't load:http://friendsofdoom.com/gz/img/post/news/2007-05-25-chess_lg.jpg

  11. Sometimes I go see movies in Mexico, and a whole string of profanity will pour out of the speakers in English, and the subtitles will display but one lonely little word: "malditos". I think that's the word I remember seeing. It's been awhile though. The movies there are now as pricey as they are here.Damn! Another blown opportunity to pick up some perfectly good profanity in Spanish.¡Chinga! Las pinches películas mal traducidas.

  12. Here there aren't subtitles, the whole speech is dubbed and syncronized with the english speech. There are actors who are specialized in doing this and usually they always dub the same actors, so you have lets say Deniro that always speaks italian with the same voice, when possible. It works pretty well in most situations but the jokes that most of the times are very difficult to translate in italian because of cultural differencies (for example etnical jokes). Same for "profanities", they aren't translated usually but changed with italian profanities that are a little different (besides in real life italian use some profanities you can't reproduce in movies because of the law).

  13. Aye, I had to run a text string search to find that one. Apparently Braveheart.Mel Gibson gets on my nerves though. :p

  14. Well, to take quotes from Star Wars is too easy. Those movies were planned since the beginning to be whole sequence of memorable quotes one after another. :)What about "I find your lack of faith disturbing" while Vader uses the Force to strangle the imperial officer who made fun of his "ancient religion"?Or "I have a bad feeling about this" when Obiwan senses the destruction of Alderaan by the first Death Star.. I could go on for years. :)BTW, here all the american movies are dubbed in italian, so the quotes aren't exactly the same because you can't translate literally some sayings.

  15. "Being happy isn't all that great.I was happy once and gained twenty pounds"Andie MacDowell in " Sex, Lies and Videotape".

  16. "Don't fuck with me fellas. This ain't my first time at the rodeo."Faye Dunaway in "Mommie Dearest" (1981), portraying Joan Crawford addressing the Board of Directors of Pepsi-Cola after they asked her to resign.

  17. Wow Faye Dunaway. I would be shocked hearing her speak like that, so unexpected.
