Years ago when price scanning at store checkouts was coming about, the Kroger on West Market Street had a scanning guarantee. “If an item scans incorrectly, you will be refunded and receive one of the item free. Limit $20.” Something like that.

It was a tremendous guarantee, and I had the great fortune of being the recipient one time.

I can’t remember the item, but I bought something that was $10 and change, and it rang up $11 and change. I went right to customer service happy as I could be.

The store manager rolled his eyes as he opened the cash drawer and got out a dollar. Of course I said, “NUNT UHH!” and pointed to the signs hanging all over the store.

He made good on the guarantee. As little money as I had back then, it was a big deal. It didn’t take long for the chain to water that offer down.

ever eat a pine tree?

Identical in taste and texture. Stats same.

I’ve been eating grape-nuts since jr. high school.

It started with a television commercial featuring Euell Gibbons. “Ever eat a pine tree?” I feel like I’m betraying Euell when I buy the store brand, but it’s two bux less.

I’m actually surprised the manufacturer would play games with sizes like that. I feel personally violated.

I got a little box for my retro game consoles for a few bucks. Says “Tora Magic Co., Ltd.”

Inside are two systems.

PowerJoy Navigator. A cheap bootleg clone of Nintendo. It’s not very good, hardly worth having, but even a lousy clone can be of interest. This console is years old now. I don’t remember how many.

Sega Genesis Mini. This was released 3rd quarter of 2019. It’s a modern emulator of a 16-bit classic. Nice video through HDMI and quality sound.

9 July 2015, Brian and I took a day tour from Guadalajara to the city of Tequila, Jalisco, Mexico.

We toured a Cuervo historical factory and were treated to some complimentary samples.

I ❤️ Mexico with all my heart.

I guess it’s better than not having an authenticator but not my first pick.

Sega Genesis Mini.

Bought myself a little treat at Target. Half price until midnight night before last. I ordered it at 11 p.m. to get the sale price and picked it up next day.

It’s nicer than I thought it would be. I plugged it in, turned it on, and two hours went by in a blink.

vinyl LP’s at target

Vinyl records (LP’s) at Target. Whoda thunk it.

I would doubt the quality, but the jacket says “remastered. heavyweight vinyl”, so maybe they are OK.

A well-cared-for vinyl LP played on quality equipment had phenomenal sound when mastered correctly. When CD’s started increasing in popularity, I think that the quality of the vinyl records was reduced, and/or the sound was mastered for CD but pressed onto vinyl. The result was that for the last few years, LP’s weren’t worth buying. Companies wanted to sell the CD’s anyway.
