diesel wabbit

Decades ago I drove a VW Rabbit Diesel with a half-blown engine. Back in those days, Diesel cars were exempt from emissions testing.

I would pull into the inspection station in that clattering smoking mess, they’d slap on a sticker, and I’d be in and out in no time.

The gasoline car drivers would all be looking at me and scowling, like “fuck that” written all over their faces.

hotel room overlooks graveyard

Tombstones right outside my hotel room window. ⚰️

Things like that don’t bother me a bit. If the weather was good, I could sleep contentedly IN the graveyard.

We got another val-U-size today. The more U drink the more U save.

At last. Not raining. Outside for some sun and fresh air.

el derecho de vivir en paz

Morning reading. Chile, Vietnam, the World.

I had a UNC-Greensboro professor from Chile years ago who was in Chile when the big shit hit. I read everything he provided and more.

We became friends. He had a stressed mind and damaged body from being imprisoned in one of the stadiums. Somehow he could still make his way in the world enough to keep researching and teaching.

I had a few courses at UNCG that were mind-blowing. His was one of them.

the keys to cuba

Only some keys get to be “The Cuba Keys.” 🇨🇺

Bought it in Cuba, too!

me at 16 with mom at the canyon

Me, age 16, and my mother. My mom. ❤️

That boy felt FUNNY inside, but he was pretty quiet about it for a few more years. Heck, I knew well before 16.

My brother had already started the “I know you have a secret” stuff. A few years later, I could say the same back to him. 😁

Looking at the pics, I think that I may as well have hung a sign around my neck, but these pics were the exception. I usually looked ready to ride a Harley. uh huh, lol. I preferred Yamahas and Suzukis. Must have been part of the problem.

centro guadalajara sanborns closed

Damn. Sanborns department store and restaurant has closed the downtown location in Guadalajara. I like Sanborns so much for the ostentatious elegance it offers at prices that a normal person can afford.

I met so many friends at the restaurant in this downtown store plus took all of my family there except my father. Brian and I loved the two for one cocktails that were available on certain days.

And, OMG, the bakery. Indescribably delicious.

Department stores Sanborns, Liverpool, Sears and Palacio de Hierro are all shedding employees due to the economic downturn. Sears in Mexico is different than in the USA. The stores are very fine.
