smoke so alarming

I just installed dual smoke alarms just for the hell of it:

— one photoelectric
— one ionization

I bought a First Alert dual sensor model in February that did both of the above and it didn’t last eight months.

I decided to get one of each single mode made by Kidde.

The Kiddes were about $10 each. The dual function First Alert was nearly $30. I hope Kidde works out better.

good breakfast

I like coming up with breakfast surprises for Brian and me on Sunday mornings.

This morning:

— toaster waffles 🧇
— side of cream cheese stuffed jalapeños with ranch 🌶️

ride captain ride

It was 8th grade biology class when I started writing the lyrics to Blues Image “Ride Captain Ride” on my desk.

That song has a lot of lines to the lyrics, and I started writing one line per day. Then one day I discovered another student from a different period started writing in lyrics to the same song so we alternated adding a line per day.

A couple of weeks went by and things were progressing nicely. The desk was filling up and the lyrics were perfect. The intrigue was tremendous.

I got so excited that one day I wrote “I love you” under the last line of the in-progress lyrics.

The next day when I came back to class, the other person had written, “I love you, too.”

I never found out who the other person was. Only a few days later, someone erased the entire desk. Maybe the teacher. Who knows.

nutcasery

Look at that folder called “nut_casery.”

The subfolders under that one are amazing! 😁

I document everything I can get my hands on.

a couple of tech things

A couple of tech things that have bothered me this year:

— Protonmail donating money to the same Hong Kong “democracy” organizations that the US government supports.

— Mozilla Foundation in favor of social media companies regulating content.

I canceled my Protonmail account because of the first one, but it would be hard to get by without the Firefox web browser because of the second one.

google photos

It looks like Google Photos is going to start a phased-in screw over of the customer on pic storage starting this coming June.

I already pay them enough for storage.

I have some alternatives in mind. Hopefully some good choices pop up by next June.

just gave it all up, the hope

“I’m Feeling Much Better Since I Gave Up All Hope”

I used to have this bumper sticker on my truck. I need to get another one now.

claxton fruit cake

The venerable Claxton Fruit Cake.

My father used to hate these things and complained about them every year when they came out, therefore, I trained myself to like them.

My mother sometimes made rum-soaked fruit cakes that were very good. We used to joke about how strong they were. 🍸

appliance fetish

I opened my door this morning and there was a Hamilton Beach out there.

It’s a countertop convection toaster oven. It was on sale for quite cheap, and I wanted to try one.

still happy after all these years

To celebrate thirty-one years together, Brian and I went out to eat at Olive Garden.

We had a fun bottle of sweet Italian wine with dinner. Afterwards, I had an espresso, and it was amazingly good, completely yummy, in fact. ☕

Good fun with yummy Brian.
