We were dropping off Brian's car for some service today and had a little look at the new ones. There's a new line of "big" Minis now called the Countryman. VERY spiffy!
Image #1: Brian posing beside one of the more striking ones with driving lamps on the grill.
Image #2: this was my favorite one. It had a sinister "Batmobile" look to it. The color is described as "Cosmic Blue Metallic". Its killer wheels can be seen in the image after this one.
Image #3: I liked these Batmobile wheels from the car shown above. They were more striking than the image conveys.
Image #4: Brian was most fond of this yellow one. It was a much more bold shade of yellow than my cell camera could capture.
Image #5: price $33,600. That's before taxes, fees, and dealer add-ons. I'll take two! 😀 You can see me squinting and looking funny in the window reflection. I've got a cold, I hurt, and the sun is in my eyes. :p
Image 6: origin of parts: Graz Austria, France, Belgium, Germany. All respectable places.

As spiffy as those cars are, I'd prefer a used prius. 🙂

Treat yourself, then drive the batmobile to Burning Man :jester:
LOL. Well, price-wise, I'd get a prius. Otherwise, a Mini.
We have those new five door four wheel drive Minis trolling around in Cape Town too… Absolutely nothing like the Mini my father gave me when I was seventeen and a bit. I'm now fifty two and a bit. Best wishes, from Brian.
They were called Mini's for a reason, these BMW's are just ugly overblown fashion statements
Maybe you can go E-bay and find an original mini?:D
I don't think an original Mini would get us cross country and back and forth to work each day.Originally posted by hungryghost:
I actually have considered buying a car that way. It's strange, but I've always wanted a Lada. I think it would be a hoot to drive one on this side of the water. The thing is that it would have to be at least 25 years old to be exempt from safety/emissions regulations. I'm not sure they run so well after just a few years, much less after 25. I can actually work on older cars OK, but not these new software-on-wheels things.Last time I priced it, overseas shipping was not all that much, $600-ish. Some sellers will even drive the car to a European port for you, then I could pick it up in Charleston, SC, or Norfolk, VA.

My first car was an FSO, a Polish blue thing that looked like a Lada. That thing was a waste of time. I was always having it repaired. On my experience those eastern European vehicles are not very reliable.

I had a Triumph TR-6 many years ago. I used to joke that I pushed it or towed it as much as it ran under its own power. Working on it required powerful swearing with an English accent. Maybe it never liked being driven on the right side of the road.I wish I had that car now. It was a fun car mostly and got me the attention I craved at the time.
