The more I read this one, the funnier it gets. I'll probably be at somebody's funeral one day and this will pop into my head and I'll have tears running down my cheeks from trying not to laugh. These things happen sometimes. You can be in a meeting or at a funeral or some other solemn event, and something wildly funny will come to mind. I find that biting down hard on a knuckle helps me to regain control and still look serious. Of course the funeral situation would be if it was for someone you only casually knew.

  13. and let me luk is tis water fine lol

  14. Window licker ( handicap children have special buses to take them to school unlike most british kids so when seen going past the occupants tend to press there faces close to the window to see out. And tend to dribble its true honest

@Steve: I am a special education teacher in the USA and I am offended by your comment 😑 Also, the word "handicap" is out dated. I love the kids I work with  apology?

  16. I'm with Carol here, let's not make fun of people who are genuinely challenged. It's not their fault and they don't deserve it. On the other hand, Carol, let's not take political correctness that far. What's wrong with 'handicapped'? It's just a word, and it's what they are.

  17. operainchicago

@Felix: In America there is a law titled "Individuals with Disabilities Act", which is a law that is an off shoot of our "Civil Rights Act" from the 60's. A handicapping condition is WAY different than having a diagnosed disability. Do a wiki search for more info. if you'd like. Also, there is NO political correctness here. It's a matter of treating people with physical, learning, cognitive, autism, vision and hearing challenges with dignity and respect. We don't even use the word mentally retarded now. Law changed the "label" to cognitive disability. That's all for now.

I was really little, but I was dimly aware when LBJ signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Even as a child, I thought it was a good idea and knew it was important because the adults were in a huge hoopla over it.The Americans with Disabilities Act I don't remember as well. By 1990 my life had already gone off the rails so many times I really don't recall anything.

  19. operainchicago

yes Americans with Disabilities Act (I said Individuals). Was probably thinking of Individual Education Plan, which is a part of all of the above

How, by using certain words instead of others? How exactly does that help them? You just had a sample of how people *see* them. You can probably tell horror stories about how people *treat* them. That's what needs to change.Originally posted by operainchicago:

And if the law changes the word 'blue' to 'low light frequency-challenged' you're going to say the sky is low light frequency-challenged? How does that help *anyone*?Sorry if I sound aggressive, but you Americans seem to be obsessed with politeness for the sake of politeness. I'd rather bring issues to the surface, where I can't overlook them.

  21. That "you Americans" shit SUCKS as does that "window licker" shit that started it all.I don't care if I shed 10 friends on opera tonight. You kids behave or I'm calling the cops, kicking (or something else) some ass, and taking names!BTW, I might be knitting with one needle tonight. :p REDIRECT!

Thanks Dave for standing by me and American principles! That is what REAL friends are all about.

  24. I've considered deleting this entire post because it makes me sick to look at it, but I'm still deciding if it's worth keeping due to the human nature aspect.

  25. Im sorry everyone its in my nature to bite before barking. Window licker is not nice so im sorry. But one little thing and i am sorry carrol but in britain the term special as in special bus or special teacher is considered very offensive and went out of use in the 70s so it just gos to show!

  26. As i used the evil window licker words i will say sorry if it offends any one but i still think its funny and thats what CAPTAIN AMERICA CALLS FREEDOM. As for your need of help with fighting in the American principles corner some how I think the planet know just what they are. please dont make me stand in front of Senator Mendes with the Scottish goverment for being bad

Steve I accept your apology. In America we continue to use Special Education, Special Transportation, etc..In fact "gifted kids" are considered Special Ed. because they are working in a curriculum that is above grade level. If anyone is interested in the difference between the definitions of "handicap" and "disability" please do a google search.

  29. As a meager attempt at humor, by this point in any Internet discussion, someone is supposed to mention Hitler, so I'll go ahead and do that now. πŸ™„

The blog owner can delete any, but the visitors can only delete their last comment, and I think that's only up until some comments come after it. Is that what you meant?
