a rare good snowfall here

I good snow is pretty rare here. Southerners like to celebrate snow with giant shopping trips to the supermarket as if it were the end of the world. Everybody loads up on milk and bread. I think it is better to get beer, cigarettes, toilet paper, and frozen pizzas. Kidding.

Nobody can get to work, but all the bars get full.

All of the following images were made well after dark. The snow is reflecting the city lights back down, making it seem almost like day.

I'm drinking a nice ale and truly enjoying the weather…as long as the power stays on. If the electricity goes out, it can start to suck rather quickly. I have only five gallons of gas for the generator, which ain't a lot.

  1. We have the eggnog and rum ready for you, Josh. The rum is Cuban to boot!

  2. omg! I'm jealous of you right now.

  3. Wow, beautiful pics, DaveWith us it's the same. Snow and cold, cold, cold. (early this year)That camper looks familiar to me (greetings to Brian too)

  4. It's still snowing a little today. Forecast says it will change to freezing rain which sometimes breaks power lines. 😦 I love the soft silence outside. There is almost no traffic on the street.Looking at the travel trailer does make me sigh. One month we are in those beautiful Nevada deserts, another month it's ice cold and snowing.

  5. has it stopped snowing yet? We got a few inches last nite

  6. I hear ya brother!

  7. We're having the first snow of the winter in Bucharest, as well, and while surface traffic is in trouble, it wasn't too cold, so I could actually walk around the city. Now, Bucharest is exceptionally well lit at night as it is; with an layer of snow on top, it feels like a giant sound stage. Cue returning home after midnight from a beer with friends. What a feeling.

I could use an outing like that.

  9. The snow does have an eerie glow to it. So do the Christmas lights underneath the snow. They look like a caterpillar from outer space.

  10. Who knows, maybe you'll have snow for Christmas? :)Love those lights under the snow, looks beautiful!

  11. Here are my old Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots in front of our aluminum tree!

There haven't been many white Christmases here. It seems like I remember one back in 1965. That may have been the year my parents gave me the Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots. 😀

  13. OMG, we had an aluminum tree! My brother still has it and very carefully puts it up. It's 50 something years old! I remember those robots too. Great old commercial.

  14. I wish I still had the one in the pics. 😦

Some of them make me nauseous. They are too strong. Once I worked two days in a church office that had one of those automatic Glade things going off every 15 min. I couldn't stand it.

Far better incense than an Airwick or Glade, which I find in every company truck I drive. I always throw them out.

I thought of that but it was placed up next to the ceiling and I would have needed a step ladder. The woman who hired me was there all the time too. She's the one who had it put up because she couldn't stand the musty smell of the church. I thought about saying something about dead people but I didn't. The office was right next to the room where wakes were held.

  19. Lol, good story.

I found the secret switch on one of them the other day. I had to be careful because a coworker had bought it, and to just rip it down would have invited trouble. Slip off the front cover. The switch will say "off, 5 mins, 15 mins, 30 mins", etc. Shut it off while you're there, back on upon your departure. 😉 I also rip down the rearview mirror pine tree dangle things when I see them. Frankly, I can tolerate cigarette odors better than those.
