I've always wanted one, so as usual, Amazon got it here in a jiffy. It just arrived today. It's a "set it and forget it" model that goes into a "keep warm" cycle after the rice or veggies are done. The manufacturer website even has recipes for cakes and cornbread that can be made in it, but I got it for the rice and steamed vegetables.
Ages ago when I was a student and lived in the international dorm on campus, most of the Chinese students had rice cookers in their rooms. Theirs were always Hitachi or Ding-A-Ling brand. I don't know why I remember that. Well, decades later here's my rice cooker fresh out of the box.
I faced the Spanish side forward for fun. The image is clickable for greater detail.

Interesting, not the cooker, but that you lived in the international dorm 😆 one more clue about your job :sherlock:
