the summer of jell-o desserts

When I was a young’un, my parents started riding my ass to play sports, and I was sure they meant severe ones like football.

Coming back from a beach trip, I was told, “you need to pick a sport, or we’re going to pick one for you.” Upon hearing that, I looked at the car-door handle and wondered how much it would hurt to fling myself out onto the highway.

I started to think of “sports” that I might could handle: croquet, slingshot (lol), bowling.

I decided to ignore it, and it went away. I was able to finish out the summer attempting Jell-O desserts from magazine recipes. “If the temperatures are right, maybe I can get this layer of fruit to float in between these layers of Jell-O, then I can put on the whipped cream!”

pineapple

Pineapples $2.99 at Harris Teeter. Same ones $4.99 at Fresh Market. I feel used that I bought two of them at FM before seeing these. 🍍

However, FM has some damn good pies and deli items.

jj in the car coming home

Sweet JJ got an ear infection. Fortunately we saw symptoms early, so we hope treatment will be easy.
Here he is ready to come home from the vet.

the baker wept

I was trapped in a medical waiting room with a TV this morning. I knew it would be good.

This woman wept three times, really wept, because her cupcake bakery was losing money, and the business consultant she hired to help very politely mentioned a few things that were wrong.

The Baker Wept! Gospel of Bakeries, chapter 11, verse 35.

WOT (weeping on television) has been a national passtime for ages. I might even do it myself given the chance.

I would, however, prefer to weep, really weep, over winning the lottery.

those were the days mf

We’d live the life we choose
We’d fight and never lose
For we were young and sure to have our way

  1. We’d driven a rental car all day in the Yucatan and were so tired.

“I don’t know what we’re gonna do for dinner.”

OMG! There it was. Right beside the gas station. It had to be done.

ham radio redux post during these times of horror

I’ve posted all this before, but it’s still important to me. It influenced my life to this day.

I think this is 1976 or so. My basement ham radio station (Amateur Radio), plus a CB (citizens band) radio. I had more antennas than those in the pic. They ran all over the yard.

Neighbors sometimes accused me of all kinds of interference on their TV’s and radios. It’s possible I did some damage to reception of local TV station channel 2, but it was best to deny it all with something like “I haven’t been on the air in a week” even if I was on the entire time.

1970’s were heavy Cold War, but I kept up with radio friends all over the old USSR areas plus the entire world. I loved them all.

What teenager would get up at 5 AM on school days? Me! I wanted a couple of hours on the air every morning before school.

I still have a valid license that I really need to put back to work.

My 6th grade teacher said one time, “it’s a lot harder to drop bombs when you have friends on the ground.” I believe in this.

Some people say that I have a hoarding problem.

pizza and a movie

No telling what we had for dinner tonight.

This goes along with that movie I rented. Crimes of the Future. 2022.

The movie is a bit severe to pair with dinner, but I do those things.
