   I loved Geocities. So much work, down the drain.Google have Spaces. 'Till it inevitably gets purged, I guess.

   Everybody's first "hello world" webpage was on Geocities. Such fun.There are some GeoCities archives online. They are fun for awhile. For some reason, my old geocities page is never in any of the archives.

   My first pages were on Geocities as well. Back then in 1999 when I was learning to write HTML.

   It's been such a long time, but I seem to remember that GeoCities had ready-to-go templates, or you could upload your own files by FTP, which is what you must have done.It took me half a day to realize that if I didn't have a file in the directory named "index.html", I'd forever get a directory listing instead of a webpage. GeoCities was a great training camp in some ways. GeoCities was fun until Yahoo ruined it. WBS (mentioned in the OP above) was great until Disney (go.com) bought it and threw it out with the trash.Now MyOpera is getting put out on the curb, in the rain, with dead leaves, cigarette butts, and fast-food bags blowing by.

    I wish some entity would buy it.I can hardly imagine the expense and talent needed to run such a thing. Even though Opera Software portrays it as a resource drain, I think if someone offered to buy it, it would suddenly become very valuable.It makes me think of selling a used car. Before you decide to sell it, it's a real piece of shit that you can't wait to get rid of. Then when you have buyers looking at it, it's suddenly the most solid reliable car in the world.

    Yes. Built in, loyal audience. No need to buy advertising, just be the sponsoring host. But I think Opera's focus is shifting away from being a popular browser towards services for advertisers.
