birds of prey

I like birds of prey. They seem so powerful and sinister. When I used to have a very small dog, I would worry about her getting carried away by one of these birds.

This hawk was watching us the other morning from just outside the window. The big hi-res pics will be uploaded to the flickr account later.

  1. living in the country we deal with big ass hawks alot. They are strong enough to swoop down and carry off any of our 3 cats

Thanks. We've been going through the guides to try to ID it. I'll show this to the in-house investigator who is on the case now.Originally posted by operainchicago:

That sounds like justice served to me. ๐Ÿ˜† Wait, no. Not eating *your* cats, but in general a bird eating a cat. Some other cat. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

  3. Ooooooo, had one of these in my huge sumac tree a few years ago. It's either a Desert Hawk or a Peregrine Falcon, both have the speckled underside. Very beautiful. I did watch it swoop down and get a dove in my yard, then watched it devour it. I was so awestruck I didn't think of running to get my camera till the last minute or two. Didn't have my telephoto on so did not get a good closeup. I worry about my little min pin sometimes when I'm not at home. However, she is 14 lbs. and might be too big for these birds….but I still worry.
