my opera server takin’ the heat this week

As we all know, the myopera community servers are having problems. I imagine that the community has been more successful than anyone at operasoftware had anticipated. Yes, it is annoying when things don't work right, often for stretches at a time.

Some people are running off to blogspot, blogger.com, wordpress, or whatever. Of course when it's your blog, you move for whatever reason you want to. It does amaze me somewhat the vitriol that some will post when they decide to move, like they have to be exasperated, angry, feel ripped off, or just can't take it anymore, as a justification for moving. Not everyone who moves is doing this. Some people have just found that other services suit them better. ¡Olé!

Their reasons for moving are valid, and so are mine for staying. That's the personal nature of blogging. Usually when I see a blog moved from opera to another service, I'm disappointed at the appearance. It starts to look flat and boring. I start wondering where all the friends are. I see some of these transplanted blogs go into inactivity fairly quickly. I don't follow opera blogs anymore when they run off to "foreign" servers, with the exception of one really stellar one in Mexico City.

I don't feel like my blog is of any importance to anyone by myself. I do enjoy getting a rise out of people sometimes, getting some attention, giving some attention, and making friends is the most super thing of all, but I'm not here for that as a priority, I just enjoy seeing my drivel recorded and "up in lights" on a webpage. I'm sure opera will soon scale to the load, but I don't care if I have access to my blog every single second that I want it. I'll come back later if necessary.

I guess I'm in whine mode again. Get miffed and move your blog, and I get to whine more! 😀 Everyone has a specialty!

By the way, have a little look at my opera's history and servers. The links at the bottom will provide you even more views. I like that wonderful server, even though it's getting bruised badly right now.

  1. Totally agree Gary! That server's been smokin' for awhile now. I was just whining about a few that had run off, but I do understand.Yes! Your's is the exception mentioned and always will be. 😎 Your flickr uploads and blogs keep us pretty happy around here. We love Mexico a lot, and like thinking of it any way we can.I could use a plate of little tacos right now. Late at night after a few beers I can put down nearly a dozen of them.

  2. Yo no me ire nuncaaaaaaaaaaaaa…..jajajaa…Queria decir no me ire nunca de Opera….Por favor alquien traduzca esto en ingles…gracias….jajaja..Ciao amiquiz!:wizard:Pace e amore!Peace and Love!Paz y Amor!;-)

  3. The above is babelfish translation. It could be strange. :yikes:

  5. I know what you mean Gary about the past. Many things I want to redo or replace, but with the nearly limitless online storage these days, I think it's worth keeping everything. It's good for perspective and adds to your history.I converted over 600 35mm slides to jpegs, and now I'm pissed that I didn't use a higher resolution. There are too many to do all that again. Also, I didn't color fix them with the Gimp. Oh well, they're all on flickr in their natural state. After fixing the color, some of them look like they are brand new, though I've never uploaded the fixed ones. I did it to please my parents, since the slides were theirs, but after I unveiled the project, they seemed not interested at all. I just can't make them behave! It was quite a job, those slides. They were all in old square magazines. I had to empty each magazine and pop each slide out of a little delicate metal frame. I then put each slide on a lightbox and snapped it in closeup mode with a camera hanging under a tripod. There are slide scanners, but I liked my results. Took me 4 long days. The uploading took a long time even over cable. Made me feel good to see them safely stored. It's like a documentary from 1949 to 1975.

  8. I'm probably behind on this one, but I just installed Opera 9.5 and noticed the bookmark synchro feature. You can synch your bookmarks to your myopera account and to other computers.Maybe this is the final data body blow that the myopera server didn't need.I've never seen it struggle more than it has the past few days.
